I can’t guarantee that the Fairchild graphic issue was present before that Java update. I had skipped many Java updates and for whatever reason I thought why not. Aside from Melodyne, Native Instrument and Toontrack updates the last manual update to my system was a Java 8 Update 371 on 04/20/23. I don’t have any updates that auto-install. Now it wouldn't surprise me that something unknowingly changed. Being my go to drum compressor I would have been squealing long ago with the threshold knob missing. Also there aren't a lot of updates even available on these older rigs. YMMV.Ĭlick to expand.I'm a little more assured than you are Not only worked at some point but worked for a long time with no manual revisions or modifications to OS, DAW or UAD. It would be an easy ‘solution’, to get you forward in term of releases and bug fixes as far as possible while avoiding retinafication related issues. … if you do not need anything brought in by 9.14 though, I’m not a rich man, but I would still gamble, let’s say my last JD can I am staring at right now that this is a 100% ‘fix’. Whether the supplemental resources I will roll out in the next ‘UAD PlugIn Cleaner’ can solve your issue, I am 85% confident it will or at least could (if I could test the actual solution on my non-retina test machine), but who knows. Which means that, to me, as I said, something must have changed.Īnyhow, my 10.13 (non-retina) test bed is currently in Belgium, but I know a fair bit about this subject, so I tweaked a few things on a more recent system and got the same result as you, on a Retina display (don’t try this at home kids!). … but coming back to the fact that you state you are 100% sure they worked at some point as part of 9.14.x, and assuming point 2 is the cause, that would point to an OS deprecation of a API or png handling lib update. Perhaps the opposite is true (unlikely), they all changed except for those ones. It seems to me a possibility that UA would have recut and re-exported those particular graphic files while working on the retina set. There I can’t be sure how it was done, as the non-retina graphics are burnt into the plug binary. As the OUTPUT knobs gfx files are actually slightly taller (and overall HxW too) I had in the end to discard that ‘theory’. OS image size limit (which I believe is 256000 pixels for each dimension, at least it was so in some earlier OSes, when I was working in that field, can’t vouch 100% for High Sierra). I did plan on creeping up in revisions until it broke again to see how far I could update when I got time.Ĭlick to expand.as you know I have been looking at this in some details (yes, I know I should get a life!), and personally I think something has changed on your system, whether you are aware of it or not - the fact you can consistently go from ‘working in 9.12.x’ to ‘not working in 9.14.x’ cannot be explained in any other way.Īnyhow, getting a bit ‘technical’, the effect that you see in your screenshot can be due to 2 things in my view: Since I can't go much further with current gear I guess I don't need a newer revision as long as all of my plugs work. Haven't tried any of the 9.13.x versions as I was tired of uninstall/reinstall and needed to get out a project. I then tried to install 9.14.1 and it told me instantly it would not install on my computer so I installed 9.14.0 and threshold knob still missing. It worked so I reinstalled v9145 thinking perhaps a corrupt graphic file had been restored and it was fixed but that didn't work. Being pegged out, and knowing it, I haven't updated anything in many months.Īfter several uninstalls and reinstalls of v9145 I rolled back to v9121, which was my prior version and I had a copy of it. The con to my antiquity is being locked on OS, DAW version and UAD versions and of course some performance which to date hasn't been needed due to how we build projects. My Apollo Quad is Firewire so I have clung on to this equipment as it would be pretty big $$$ to replace it with like units. My older iMac has a 10TB drive, 32GB RAM and Firewire 800 and I am able to work on it myself. I've stayed super aware of my revisions because I am pegged out on OS to High Sierra. I have 65 plugs total and many other ones are randomly used. Also routinely use Capitol Chambers since it came out (vocals), DBX 160 (bass), Manley Vari-Mu (master glue), 610-B (spice). I have a consistent routine on drums and Fairchild 670 is my go to having produced many tracks with it. My updates usually coincided with mid year bundle sales. I do know 100% positively that I have used 9.14.5 since (near) the time it was released.
